My Top 5 Criminal/Thriller/Mystery Novels

by - September 27, 2016

Hello beautiful people.

Today is 'My Top 5' day - YAY!

I enjoy reading mystery and thriller - not horror, I get too scared! Although my list is, as always, too big not to bore you to death, I have selected five amazing reads, especially for now that the weather is getting chilly again.

Here are my TOP 5 novels if you like a little bit of mystery in your life

1 - IMMORTAL IN DEATH - J. D. Robb

Oh, Miss Nora Roberts/JD Robb just gets to me. Whether it's writing romance novels, or this amazing series of futuristic criminal thrillers. I just devour these books in a day or two - they're that good!

Lieutenant Eve Dallas investigates the murder of a top model, and the suspect is none other then her best friend. The investigation lead Eve and us readers into the world of high fashion - and we all know how dramatic that world, even without murders, already is.

This wonderful series of books show us JD Robb's view of the future, mid 21st century, New York City - there's even a hotel on the moon, people! -, and how crafty crime gets.

2 - THE LOST SYMBOL - Dan Brown

Robert Langdon to the rescue once more, this time at the U.S. Capitol Building. His lecture is interrupted when a weird object is discovered in the building, and the symbologist has to step in to help.

My favourite from Mr. Brown so far. Loved the theme of the Masonry, the energy theme, and the usual mystery Dan Brown present us with.

The fans of conspiracy theories will love some of the secrets this romance (tries to) clarifies.

3 - JURASSIC PARK - Michael Crichton

Yes, before it was a cult film we all (secretly) love, Jurassic Park was a book. The plot remains the same, a rich man finds a way to clone dinosaurs - still, from the DNA extracted by a mosquito trapped in amber, just like the movie. He then creates a huge theme park, destined to delight children and grown ups from around the world.

We all know what happens from then on, but there are many differences from the book to the movie - aren't there always? It's definitely worth reading, especially because there're so much more details of the park, of the science behind creating dinosaurs, etc.

4 - PERFUME: THE STORY OF A MURDERER - Patrick Süskind

A lovely written piece of literature, I enjoyed evert page of this book. The story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, who is born with an amazing sense of smell - not something I would personally enjoy, thank you!

His gift turns into a nightmare, when he is not satisfied with just the smells that he senses. First, he becomes obsessed with objects whose smell attract him, then... women.

Terrifying to the point of chilling your bones, beautifully written and very original, Perfume is a must read!

5 - SHUTTER ISLAND - Dennis Lehane

In 1954, U. S. Marshal Teddy Daniels and partner Chuck Aule come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for Criminally Insane, to investigate a the disappearance of a patient.

This book chilled me, not only because of the big twist in the end - it's worth the read! - but also the fact that it's taken in a mental hospital, with horrifying human experiments, sinister murderers, and an island where nothing is what it seems.

Happy Readings,
Sophie
