Hello beautiful people.

Today is 'My Top 5' day - YAY!

I enjoy reading mystery and thriller - not horror, I get too scared! Although my list is, as always, too big not to bore you to death, I have selected five amazing reads, especially for now that the weather is getting chilly again.

Here are my TOP 5 novels if you like a little bit of mystery in your life

1 - IMMORTAL IN DEATH - J. D. Robb

Oh, Miss Nora Roberts/JD Robb just gets to me. Whether it's writing romance novels, or this amazing series of futuristic criminal thrillers. I just devour these books in a day or two - they're that good!

Lieutenant Eve Dallas investigates the murder of a top model, and the suspect is none other then her best friend. The investigation lead Eve and us readers into the world of high fashion - and we all know how dramatic that world, even without murders, already is.

This wonderful series of books show us JD Robb's view of the future, mid 21st century, New York City - there's even a hotel on the moon, people! -, and how crafty crime gets.

2 - THE LOST SYMBOL - Dan Brown

Robert Langdon to the rescue once more, this time at the U.S. Capitol Building. His lecture is interrupted when a weird object is discovered in the building, and the symbologist has to step in to help.

My favourite from Mr. Brown so far. Loved the theme of the Masonry, the energy theme, and the usual mystery Dan Brown present us with.

The fans of conspiracy theories will love some of the secrets this romance (tries to) clarifies.

3 - JURASSIC PARK - Michael Crichton

Yes, before it was a cult film we all (secretly) love, Jurassic Park was a book. The plot remains the same, a rich man finds a way to clone dinosaurs - still, from the DNA extracted by a mosquito trapped in amber, just like the movie. He then creates a huge theme park, destined to delight children and grown ups from around the world.

We all know what happens from then on, but there are many differences from the book to the movie - aren't there always? It's definitely worth reading, especially because there're so much more details of the park, of the science behind creating dinosaurs, etc.

4 - PERFUME: THE STORY OF A MURDERER - Patrick Süskind

A lovely written piece of literature, I enjoyed evert page of this book. The story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, who is born with an amazing sense of smell - not something I would personally enjoy, thank you!

His gift turns into a nightmare, when he is not satisfied with just the smells that he senses. First, he becomes obsessed with objects whose smell attract him, then... women.

Terrifying to the point of chilling your bones, beautifully written and very original, Perfume is a must read!

5 - SHUTTER ISLAND - Dennis Lehane

In 1954, U. S. Marshal Teddy Daniels and partner Chuck Aule come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for Criminally Insane, to investigate a the disappearance of a patient.

This book chilled me, not only because of the big twist in the end - it's worth the read! - but also the fact that it's taken in a mental hospital, with horrifying human experiments, sinister murderers, and an island where nothing is what it seems.

Happy Readings,
Sophie

Hey guys!

I just received my new Kindle today, and I'm really excited about it.

I thought an upgrade was necessary and retired my old Kindle Touch for the latest Kindle Paperwhite, 2015.

My new baby

I think you all know by now how much I love the Kindle.

Well, the Kindle Paperwhite, 2015, has an incredible new feature that I personally adore: the back light.

Long gone are the nights where I struggled to read the words with my flimsy lamp.

With a slick new design, incredible soft to the touch while remaining very sturdy, the Kindle Paperwhite, 2015, comes with E-ink display and high resolution touchscreen - HD reading, ya'll!

Look at it! It's so pretty!

With built-in Wi-Fi, I downloaded all my hundreds of books in a couple of minutes. As always, the Kindle still comes with its incredible battery life - seriously, mobile manufactures, could you take a look at this?!

I can easily say my old Kindle's battery would last for a whole month, sometimes a little bit more - well, except on the holidays.

You still have that paper feeling when touching the screen, and the response is amazing. Fast as it could be, even when loaded with tons of books.

Ok, for the cons now. No audio. Yep, you read it right, there's no audio on this new Kindle - RIP my old Kindle!

Although I was disappointed at first, I must admit that I prefer to listen to Spotify on my mobile anyway, so I quickly got over this small bump.

The storage for me was also a bit meh. Only 2Gb doesn't look like enough, but I think I just have too many books on my Collection ^_^

For more features and other reviews, please visit the Amazon website right here

Happy Readings,
Sophie

Hi y'all!

This is definitely my favourite genre, these days.

1. THE FEVER SERIES - Karen Marie Moning

My favourite series of all time. It has inspired me in so many of my stories, just because Miss Moning's characters are so rich and deep. No one is just good, and no character is just a villain. There are shades of grey with all of them, and the fact that is set in Dublin is just a perk. You have something close to werewolves, something similar to vampires, some Fae, some ghosts, but they're all so peculiar you can't categorize anyone in just one category. And I just love that!

2. THE BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD SERIES - J. R. Ward

Uh, the Brothers!!!! *.* I have to say my favourite is Zsadist. I just love an underdog, and and anti-hero, and Zsadist is definitely both. If what you love is tough vampires, and not sentimental and shining ones, this series is a definitely go!

3. THE DARK HUNTER SERIES - Sherrilyn Kenyon

It's been a while since I've read anything from Miss Kenyon, but that doesn't mean that this long series isn't great. It is, there's so many different mythological characters, backgrounds and love stories, that you will fall in love with it from book 1!

4. DEATH IS MY BFF SERIES - Katarina E. Tonks

You might not be too familiar with this series, but you can trust when I say that Katarina is a wonderful writer. The main characters, the Grim Reaper himself and the heroine Faith Williams, get on this love story together that saying it's complicated, is an understatement. Originally a nove on WATTPAD (you can find all kinds of great writing in there!), Katarina has published all the novels in the series on her WATTPAD page only, which makes one of the few successful Wattpad authors of all time.

5. CHARLEY DAVIDSON SERIES - Darynda Jones

In the same lines of Tonks' DEATH IF MY BFF series, this time the girl is the Grim Reaper. Charley Davidson (and yes, that is really her name, which is hilarious to me). Charley sees dead people and she has to convince them to go into the light and find ultimate peace. But, obviously, with eight books under her wing, you might guess this is easier said then done.

If you love Urban Fantasy the same way I do, add these fantastic books to your reading list - mine has thousands of stories on hold, still, so if you're anything like me, you'll add these as well, even though you know you should get one with your reading!

Happy Readings,
Sophie

Hello everyone!

I hope you've enjoyed your weekend, and that you're prepared for another week and to go back to work.

I am passionate about reading - almost more than writing, really -, and Historical Romance was, once, my favorite genre. These days, I move around a lot. Sometimes I'm more into Contemporary Romance, others it's Urban Fantasy - currently one of my favorites.

I have to admit - with a terribly flushed face  -.-' - I've read the Harlequin novels avidly. I used to read them every day/night, and fall in love with every Prince/Lord/Duke/Warrior that lived only in those pages.

(I hope my Prince H doesn't read this!)

I only included on the list stories that could've actually taken place sometime before in the history of the world. Wonderful books like Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings and G. R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones are not included, but I will include them with a fantasy Top 5, soon.

From all the hundreds of Historical Romance stories I've read, 5 still touch me, I read them again every couple of Years, or so. Below is my all time TOP 5 in the Historical Romance Genre.

1 - DAUGHTER OF THE FOREST - Juliet Marillier

My favorite ever since I'm 14/15 years old. I've talked about this book before here on the blog. It's my favorite book of all time, period. I remember exactly what I felt reading about this young girl, her love for her brothers, her courage and what she was prepared to do, what she gave up, to save her family.

It still brings tears to my eyes when I read. The original trilogy, for me, are the best books from Ms. Marillier. I've been accompanying the Sevenwaters Trilogy, but I must admit the original 3 are the ones that always touch my heart.

If you love unconventional Historical Romance, i.e., set in a primitive Ireland, with some magic, mystery and ultimate sacrifice, get this one, it's so worth it.

2 - OUTLANDER - Diana Gabaldon

Who is watching the STARZ TV show? ME, me, me! When I first saw the trailer, I screamed - honestly, Prince H cursed and ran down the stairs of our house to make sure I was alive. I was so happy, and I've been watching the show without ever missing a single second! It's wonderful, and it so does justice to this wonderful series.

Ms. Gabaldon has done a fantastic job with Claire's and Jamie's love story. I love the details, I adore how she makes it look like the were actually there with all those important people from the past.

An ongoing series with 7 published books, the Outlander Series is filled with magic time travel, Scottish men in their kilts and 18th century drama to make you squirm in your seat.

3 - PRIDE AND PREJUDICE - Jane Austen

Darcy. Mr. Darcy. No other words are needed! *.*

4 - MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA - Arthur Golden

Beautifully written piece of art. The story about a young girl that is sold with her sister into the dark world of the Geishas, in the 1920's in Japan. We read all about little Chiyo, with her beautiful blue eyes, like clear water, and how she becomes one of the most talented Geishas in Japan.

I loved this book so much - and the movie I must admit - that I have goosebumps when I talk about it.
(Actually, I think I'll watch it a gain tonight!).

Insight into the world of Geishas, you feel Chiyo's terror, worry and passion in the crafty words of Mr. Golden.

5 - NORTH AND SOUTH - Elizabeth Gaskell

Same sort of Historical novel as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, the story of Margareth and her family, moving from the South to the industrialised North of England. The change is not welcome, and she struggles to adapt. We meet John Thornton which is... *sighs* just wonderful. You can also watch the BBC mini serie which, if you've ever seen a BBC mini serie, you know it will be spot on.

And this is it, my personal TOP 5 in Historical Romance - I left out all the Harlequin novels because... oh well, I would be too embarrassed to... justify my choices -.-'

Happy Readings,
Sophie

Good evening, guys!

I hope you've all been enjoying this hot summer (it's burning even here, in the UK!), reading a nice book by the sea or a pool, having a cool cocktail and getting some much needed vitamin D.

Personally, I've been enjoying some time with family - both myself and H, my Prince, we live in the UK, and our families live in Portugal, so whenever we get the time to be with them, we just pull the plug on everything else.

Besides the usual editing, reading and trying to finish the next novel - KMN... - I've been enjoying myself on something that it's really a given to all of us, these days: FACEBOOK.

For us, struggling writers, to get much needed support, is hard. I've decided that perhaps sharing with you some of the groups where I've been trying to get myself involved with, might help you as well. If you're like me, that has been struggling to write anything worth reading for months and months, take a look at these wonderful support groups, and you might just get great idea you've been waiting for.

KSCD SELF-PUBLISHED AND INDIE AUTHOR SUPPORT GROUP

Initiated by a dear friend and writer, Shelly Muncaster, this support group will make you feel like you're among friends as soon as you enter through the virtual door. If you're looking for reviews, some promotion, a good time with other writers than 100% understand your struggles, this is the group you should start with. Shelly has an Instagram account as well @keystrokesandcloseddoors where she answers your questions about anything writing related, as give you ideas, support and adorable private moments.

KINDLE MOJO

Kindle Mojo is great for writers and for readers as well. For me, when I'm stuck and don't know what to read next, this amazing group of over 10k people, will share many freebies and discount priced books for my Kindle, and 99% of the times, I cannot believe that the books I'm reading come from other struggling amateur writers! Take a look at this wonderful group of people, and find what unknown story you can read next. Oh, and a little self promotion never hurt anyone, just remember to support the other writers as well - don't be greedy!

PARANORMAL ROMANCE & URBAN FANTASY FANATICS

YES, you guesses it: this group is all about that perfect genre, Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy (not always one and the same genre, but when it is... oh boy, do I get the chills!). With over 4k members and still counting, this bunch of paranormal and fantasy lovers will share with you the best of the best of what's out there - or what just came out, from known and unknown authors alike. If Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy is your poison, drop by this Facebook group, and get lost on the thousands and thousands of amazing literature that you will find in there.

#MINXES REVIEWS

Oh, reviews... The one thing we all look for, that one review that could change the course of our literary career - or drown it as fast as the Titanic. This very small group will give you a sincere and polite review of your work, you only have to be polite, ask, and wait. Of course, I can't promise you will have a review ASAP - neither can they -, but you will definitely find some nice folk, great stories, and that so much needed review.

PASSION FOR BOOKS

"In this group, you can post anything related to books" That's how Réjean Pellerin welcomes you to the group. This group gets new members every hour, with over 30k members at the moment. If you are looking to make some writing friends, get to know some new work, help with editing, do some self promotion, you are welcome to post it. Don't forget the number one rule: always be polite. Don't spam the group, offer your services and mean it.

If you're anything like me, and you spend way too many hours around Facebook, take a few minutes and check out these amazing people. Take time to get to know them, and if you put your heart into it, you will find that one little thing that has been missing in your own work.

Happy Readings,

Sophie

Hey guys!

Just came by to remind you of all the little treats of stories you can read. Check the list below, and I'm sure some story will catch your eye!

MR PRIME MINISTER

My latest published novel, MR PRIME MINISTER is an hopeless romantic Chick-lit to make you squirm, laugh and cry a tiny little bit (hey, what good story doens't make us share a tear or two?). If you're looking for a nice winter read, to make you feel cozy and romantic, this is the story to look for!

SYNOPSIS
Alice Summers is your usual sweet, kind and somehow romantic girl next door.
Charles Whitehall is your typical charming, funny and bachelor UK's Prime Minister. Alice didn't know that by helping the most powerful man in the country, her life would do a 180º. Although being totally head over heels for a famous man has its perks, she's not the kind of girl to enjoy the big spotlight and all it comes with fame.

DIARY OF A SIZE 12

SYNOPSYS: When Georgia McAllister – self-named fashion goddess, store-branded size twelve – applied for a new job as a CEO’s secretary, she was far from imagining she’d just taken the very first step towards her dreams. It’s definitely not easy to start a new career at thirty – could that even be called a career? Either way, she got it and she wasn’t letting it go, not even for the latest Chanel clutch she’d been keeping her eye on for months. But she might have to, if she doesn’t gather the strength to deal with Mr. OCD, Mr. All-kinds-of-rude-and-cold, her very own CEO, Julian von Hauser.

LITTLE WITCHES

Also, the story I've been working most recently LITTLE WITCHES, has been updated frequently on WATTPAD, so if you're dying to read a dark and sexy story about a family of witches arriving to a small town and turning heads their way, this is the story for you!

SYNOPSIS
Carrington has always been a small town with no big events - except for the usual baking competition. Until the day a new and very unusual family moves in. Ted Harding dies unexpectedly, choked with a piece of lemon tart. On his will reading, the town finds out he left all his fortune, his business and mansion to the Valentine family, five women with very suspicious credentials and background. It is said the Valentines are witches, the Devil's lovers, and that they possessed Ted Harding so he gave them his fortune.

Truth is, the Valentines don't even try to mix with the townsfolk. In their tight, revealing outfits and promiscuous ways, they will shake Carrington's uptight ways like never before. And when an old enemy follows them to the middle of nowhere, the truth about the so called witches will either come out, or die for good.

THORNS

SYNOPSIS

Whitney Gordon will defend her family at all costs. If people shout names or say mean things just because she has two dads, well they can all go to hell. She's a popular teen girl just like all others out there. Minus the fact she has a small devil for a sister, and a gay best friend that won't come out of the closet. Life's complicated enough as it is, and Whitney's seems to get more messed up, when the school's bully and criminal finds out about a secret she has kept for years.

PIECE OF PIE

You can also get my latest publication. I wrote this short story for a contest, and the theme is something that I personally feel the need to object to. All forms of violence should be forbidden, but domestic violence (and animal and child abuse) just make me feel truly angry. So, I wrote PIECE OF PIE to bring hope and clarity to the harsh reality of abuse.

SYNOPSIS

Mary Elizabeth Kelly (aka Beth), as lived by her mother's strict rules through the twenty eight years of her life. That meant she could never divorce her abusive husband of ten years, Austin, she would never be free from his beatings. With no college education and no real aspiration, her only help might be her non-identical - in so many ways - twin Mary Catherine (aka Katie). But window of opportunity opens up to Beth, and she's able to run out of her house, out of the country, and into jolly Ireland, to her sister's protection. And there, she meets funny, gorgeous and flirty James Connolly. And sparks start to fly.
